Unrest in Taal Volcano Noted
Observe precautions when going near Taal Volcano in Batangas. The volcano has shown an increase in seismicity (frequency and distribution of earthquakes) according to state seismologists. Phivolcs (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) said the increase in seismicity reflects a "low-level episode of unrest". Alert Level 1 remains in effect there.
In an advisory, Phivolcs said that there is no imminent eruption is indicated at present. The main crater area is off-limits to the general public because steam explosions may suddenly occur.
Taal seismic network recorded 10 volcanic earthquakes accompanied by runbling sounds from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday.
Two of the quakes that occurred at 12:33 p.m. and 12:46 p.m. were both felt at Intensity II at Pira-piraso village.
