Automated NBI Clearance Machines Launched

3 September 2008 One Comment Add to Technorati Favorites

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has launched its Automated Clearance Machines (ACMs) today at its branch on Carriedo Street in Sta.Cruz, Manila. An ACM is similar to an Automated Teller Machine(ATM) except that it dispenses your NBI clearance instead of cash. It works with a clearance renewal card (CRC) that you simply feed into the machine so that transactions start quickly. The ACM uses facial and fingerprint biometrics to check on the personal information of the individual applying for NBI clearance renewal. If the individual’s biometrics matches that of those in the NBI database, it will proceed to check the database if there is any criminal record in the name of the ACM cardholder. If there is no existing criminal record, the machine automatically prints an NBI clearance and updates the chip with the latest information.

If the individual has an existing criminal record, the system will check the information on the chip to see if the records had already been cleared previously. If it had already been cleared previously, the machine will print a clearance.

The ACM is made possible through the NBI’s system integration company and technical systems provider, Mega Data Corp.

Mega Data Corp.is also the company behind the license renewal system of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
