Using Facebook to Attack

9 August 2008 One Comment Add to Technorati Favorites

Malicious hackers are making postings on the Wall section of Facebook to attack Facebook users.

The Wall is a feature of Facebook and is used by members to leave messages to each other, it can also contain photos, videos, music, and links to other web sites.

Malicious hackers post messages supposedly posted by a friend that urges members to click on a link to view a video on another website, supposedly hosted by Google. The link takes users to a web page that is NOT hosted by Google and users are told that they need a new version of Adobe’s Flash player and urged to download an executable file/program to watch the video.

Instead of downloading a new version of Flash player, users are tricked into downloading a malware/Trojan horse named Troj/Dloadr-BPL, that also downloads other malicious code named Troj/Agent-HJX into users’ computers. Afterwards, it displays an image of a court jester sticking its tongue out.

This means the computer is now compromised and malicious hackers have gained control over the computer and can use it for a variety of purposes like sending out spam or distributing malware.

If you need to download a Flash player, just go to the source directly at http://www.adobe.com/ .
