Here are Halloween costume ideas to save you money. Have fun with the family while creating your own costumes! |
Rubicks cube
Using a large card board box and five different colors of contact paper or construction paper (contact paper is easier to stick on) enough to do 5 sides, black pants and long sleeve shirt.
Dice
Grab a friend and take 2 cardboard boxes, paint them white. Cut out several black circles (From construction paper) and glue them in the appropriate places to make you and your friend a pair of dice!
Lego Block
Take a medium sized box (apple/orange boxes were a good size) cut two round holes in the sides for the arms. Hot glue 6 cottage cheese containers on the top of the box (the flat part) like a Lego piece. Spray paint the whole thing whatever color lego you want to be. (We chose our colors based on what color sweats and turtle necks we had on hand) Take a smaller box that will fit on top of their head snugly and hot glue one cottage cheese container and spray paint it the same color. Just slip into the open part of the back of the box and stick your arms through the holes.

you can just throw on some white clothes, then cut a yellow circle out of yellow fabric and attach it to your stomach. Add some devil horns and a pitch fork, and voila! You’re a "Deviled Egg."
Make-Up That Makes A Masterpiece
The key to making your face into a master disguise this year is proper preparation. There are so many products and companies out there, that choosing which ones to use can be quite confusing. These quick tips should help make your make-up application and maintenance easy this Halloween.
Foundation
You want to do what you can to protect your skin prior to using heavy make-up and face paint during Halloween. Before you begin putting products on, make sure your face is washed and clean. Start with a light moisturizer that will gently keep your skin from drying out beneath the make-up. Some people even put a light coat of Vaseline, to keep the face paints and heavy make-up from ruining their skin. Apply a base make-up all over your face and neck before using bolder colors and techniques. Always read the labels of the products to see which base works best.
Quality Products
With so many products to choose from, you don’t want to get lost in the shuffle and false ads. Some key words to be on the lookout for are: safe, sensitive skin, hypo-allergenic, removable, and approved. This is especially important when purchasing make-up for children and teenagers, who tend to have ultra-sensitive skin. If you wear contact lenses make sure the products you use are user-friendly and safe for contact lens wearers.
Old-Age Effect
Scrunch-up your face first, to emphasize your “natural” wrinkles. Apply make-up that is lighter than your natural skin-tone. Work on small areas at a time for optimal results. Then, “de-scrunch” and fill in the creases in your skin by using a soft brown eye-liner pencil. Create sunken-cheeks by darkening the cheek hollows. Emphasize the creases around your nose and darken along your jaw line. Create crow’ feet near your eyes (with the pencil). Pucker your lips to create wrinkles around your mouth the same way. Be sure to add liver spots, broken capillaries for the full effect. Use the same techniques on your hands to keep the theme all over. When you are all down, powder all over with baby powder to set your make-up and give a dry-cracked skin appearance. You can also use baby powder in your hair for a graying effect.
Five O’clock Shadow
Burn a piece of cork and rub on the lower portion on your face in the shape of a beard. Create stubble by using ground coffee or tea stuck onto your skin with eyelash adhesive.
Facial Hair
Cut some fur off of an old stuffed animal and apply over face with eyelash adhesive. Apply a simple, light-weight mustache with a mascara wand.
Ghoulish Skin
For skin that actually peels and falls off, use any type of peel-off facial mask, which can be found in most drug stores.
Clean and Clear
One common mistake made year after year is not properly cleansing faces after make-up removal. Costume and theatre make-up can wreak havoc on sensitive skin. Always remember to gently remove any make-up, cleanse with a cleanser that is ideal for your skin type and follow up with a mild-astringent to remove any access residue. With these great tips in place, you’ll have make-up that will make a lasting impression.
Static Cling
Wear any kind of mismatched clothes, pin one pant leg up, pin dryer sheets on you as well as socks, small towels, etc., and then use hair gel to make your hair look like it has static.
